First impressions of Higashi-Kurume

We have waterfront property!  This "ditch" runs past our house and is considered a national treasure.  The story we heard was that it was a gift from the Shogun to a local lord.  We'll get the whole story later.

          
No first impression would be complete without lots of bike pictures: they are everywhere and the streets are very narrow.  It is incredible but sometimes the cars do pass each other without crashing into each other or the many bikes and pedestrians.

       
The architecture is a constantly changing blend of new and old.
